Health Care: Not a Very Happy Birthday

Tomorrow will mark the one year anniversary of the Obama administration's "proudest achievement," health care reform- the Affordable Care Act. Today, Republicans are trying to appeal the law, some federal judges have found the law to be unconstitutional, independents feel increasingly hostile toward the law, and half of Americans think that Obamacare has already been repealed! Yet, the Affordable Care Act is still the law and by 2014 all Americans will be required to buy health insurance- the individual mandate. The article discusses the likelihood of both the Republican's plan to "repeal and replace" the law and the Supreme Court ruling the individual mandate unconstitutional. Two interesting findings: 1. The RAND Corporation and the Urban Institute debunk Republican's claim that Obamacare will destroy employee-sponsored coverage. They find that it will increase because employers will have tax-assisted coverage 2. Analysts find costs of health coverage under Obamacare will continue to soar.

a) Yay for health care reform! I'm super excited for its first anniversary- I hope it has many more ;)

b) I wasn't aware of the RAND study, so I'll have to check that out- thanks Anna!

c) As for the National Review article, I (think) I disagree with everything that it says (I stopped reading the article because I thought my eyes were going to roll out of my head).

d) reading Haas? What are you talking about?

Just kidding...

Patrick, does it shake your faith in policy technocrats that instead of the 325,000 or more enrollees in Obamacare's high risk pools by the end of 2010 predicted by "experts," we currently have 12,000? Hayek would not be surprised.
