Should our taxpaying dollars be going to a foreign car company? I'm all for incentivizing green technology devolopment, but a foreign and luxury brand?

Both those companies are based in California.
Tesla's Roadster is assembled in Britain because it's based off the (also British-made) Lotus. But all of the design is done in America, and the company is headquartered here.
Also, isn't this precisely the kind of private investment that conservatives are supposed to champion? Giving loans (not grants) to the private market to let them make it on their own?
It seems like this is an issue because it's Al Gore, not because it's...a bad idea.
