A high tariff on imported ethanol (especially Brazilian sugarcane-based ethanol) increases costs at the expense of American consumers/taxpayers. Is the upside that it offsets the VEECT? Is it still effective in this original purpose? Finally, will Obama continue to subsidize the corn industry--even after Brazil lifted its tariff on imported ethanol?
