NYT: Leaders Agree to Delay a Deal on Climate Change in Copenhagen

Obama must be breathing a sigh of relief! No more sweating over having nothing to say at Copenhagen!

"Among the chief barriers to a comprehensive deal in Copenhagen was Congress’s inability to enact climate and energy legislation that sets binding targets on greenhouse gases in the United States. Without such a commitment, other nations are loath to make their own pledges.

Administration officials and Congressional leaders have said that final legislative action on a climate bill would not occur before the first half of next year."

How embarassing. After the weapons of mass destruction blip, guantanamo bay, and now this our international credibility looks to be death spiraling. Denmark or some other scandanavian country that has curbed thier emissions and done their part to hault climate change is going to get pretty pissed sometime soon, and as one of the leading carbon emitters, we had better watch out. Maybe ensuring our citizens have access to universal healthcare will restore some confidence internationally, but that's something that only effects us. Carbon emissions effect the global community, and at some point a coalition is going to build around climate change, and we're going to be barred from those conversations. Or at least i hope so, becuase then perhaps we'd have a little urgency?
