From 'Hope & Change' to 'Fear & Loathing'
The stimulus package being put together is simply not the ideal way to jumpstart the economy. Although the definition of a stimulus dictates that spending occur soon, I just do not feel comfortable with what is being put out there. When we started this whole process it was determined that we could bring forth change to earmark spending as has been traditional in Congress. A lot of the messages that I hear now from proponents of the package are trying to appeal to fear as motivation for why it needs to passed. Now, if the package is going to jumpstart the economy then my point is moot since you use whatever tactics you need to in order to do get the job done right. But, I would much rather hear about the hope and change message that was being chanted near the beginning of this process than the gloom and doom that we are supposedly destined to if we don't accept this proposal. All it takes is reframing the issue and President Obama was able to do that very well during his campaign.
