Former reformist Iranian president will run again
The election of Mohammed Khatami would be a significant step forward in US-Iranian relations. Currently, President Obama would have to deal with Ahmadinejad who has increased his anti-American rhetoric in the lead up to the Presidential elections in June. If Khatami were elected, it would be a sign that Iranians are open to integrating with the west, and that negotiations with Iran might actually get us somewhere. As the months go by, Iran's nuclear program gets bigger. If there is any real hope of preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons, we have to hope that Khatami is elected.
