Dispensing with Democracy

This article brings up an interesting point. With all of the defections into the Obama cabinet, five percent of the U.S. Senate is composed of unelected representatives. Although, the people appointed seem to be qualified, I don't really like the prospect of unelected Senators representing me, especially considering all of the behind the scenes work with each of the new members to get in their current position. Are there more Blagos out there? I have to imagine that favor exchange if not in monetary form has taken place in some of these appointments and that definitely is not the way to reach democracy.
