Bipartisan Deal Paves Way for Stimulus in Senate
It looks like education spending is the loser, and House Democrats will gripe about cuts to their programs. But the bill looks slated to pass, with Reid taking the session into the weekend. Given the hardline ideology of the remaining Republicans, I think this sort of bipartisan compromise by a few GOP moderates will be important to a great deal of Obama's legislation; David Brooks has even commented that it may reflect the rise of a new "gang" system similar to that seen in Chief Justice Roberts's nomination.
