After class yesterday, we decided the fall festivities had begun and we celebrated in style.

The Biden Saga Continues: Does Biden support Rape and Murder?

In case you've missed Biden's strange remarks on Tuesday and Wednesday, I'll give a quick recap:

1. The Republicans opposing their Jobs bill are in favor of rape, murder and crime. (The Democrats who opposed it weren't mentioned)

2. He wishes Republicans had "some notion" of what its like to be raped and robbed.

The White House Press Secretary defended those remarks yesterday, and didn't attempt to rescind any of them.

In an attempt to show the absurdity spewing from our Vice President's mouth, this article uses his logic to show how he supports rape and murder. Obviously this is untrue, but so is everything else Biden has been saying.

The Jobs bill gives $30 million towards teaching jobs, but only $5 million to crime prevention. If you take him for his word, he is in a sense valuing smaller classrooms six times more than preventing rape. By his own logic, he's not creating as many "rape preventitive" jobs as he could be, therefore, supporting Rape more than opponents of the bill.

Absurd, but a logical conclusion to his own words.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) has campaigned on the compelling story of how he is the son of Cuban exiles. Uncovered documents, however, prove otherwise, as they show that his parents came to America 2 years before the rise of Fidel Castro (1959). Rubio says that he had never seen the documents before and that most of what he knew about his ancestry came from what his family personally told him. It makes you wonder..what have your parents been hiding from you [i.e. invitations to Hogwarts]?

The DCCC is making progress in taking steps to retake the house. In terms of raising cash, they have bested their GOP counterpart, the NRCC for the third month in a row. Although the NRCC still has more money on hand, the DCCC has begun a trend to catch up well before the 2012 elections.

Biden stands by remarks: wishes GOP knew what it is like to be raped

Vice President Joe Biden stands by his remarks that he made during a speech on Tuesday that "murder will continue to rise, rape will continue to rise, crime will continue to rise" if GOP doesn't pass Obama's jobs plan.

The evidence for this claim is virtually non-existant. If Biden is trying to say there is a correlation between Jobs creation and and peaceful streets, He shouldn't be targeting Republicans, who also have a Jobs Plan. (Download here free and read for yourself).

And if one unfounded claim isn't enough, he went even further to wish that Republicans knew what it was like to have been raped and robbed. "I wish that they had some notion of what it was like to be on the other side of the gun, or (to have) a 200-pound man standing over you telling you to submit."

First of all: WAY OVER THE LINE! Are you kidding me!?! As I'm sure many will agree, you should never even come close to implying that you wish rape on anyone. ever.

Secondly: What happened to 'civility of speech?' In the same way Jimmy Hoffa made remarks about "taking out those Tea Party SOB's", Democrats keep breaking their own rules. Only this time, its the VICE PRESIDENT OF THE US! The White House refused to adress Hoffa's remarks, but surely they can't kick this one under the rug, as its coming from the VP.

I think this is where Biden goes from 'funny guy who makes silly remarks' to 'offensive, out-of-line Vice President who needs to start taking responsibility for what comes out of his mouth.'

Visit to 'McPherson Square City': "Who Declared War on Free Speech?"

About a week ago, students of Hamilton's Semester-in-Washington for the Fall of 2011--led by our Fearless Leader, Professor Ted Eismeier, paid a 'courtesy call' on Rep. Richard Hanna (R-NY's 24th District). While with the good Rep. Hanna, I asked him what he thought of the Occupy Wall Street, DC, etc. protests. He had a somewhat positive view of the protests and in his answer, he asked me to "get out of the suit and join them" (jokingly though). I am happy to report that I heeded the Representative's call and 'joined' my Occupy DC 'brothers and sisters' at McPherson Square to 'solidarize with them.' While with them, I took some pictures of their 'mini McPherson Square city.' Please find pictures below.

Who else but Romney?

Despite a large amount of focus, a few remain convinced that Romney's nomination is anything but a done deal. Despite his leads in the polls and the much greater attention he's been receiving, it's too easy to point back to 2008 when Hillary and Rudy Giuliani were the presumptive nominees before falling to the men who would eventually make it on the ballot.

Looking at the candidates, does anyone want to venture guesses as to who will actually get the nomination? Is anyone looking to Cain? to Perry? one of the other candidates trailing in the polls?

Don't Count on the Super Committee for Anything

As the leaves begin to change and the month of October slowly comes to an end, its time to start worrying about the Super Committee and its impending deadline in November. I was having a conversation with my Dad at dinner tonight, and I was startled to learn that the automatic budget cuts that are supposed to come to be enacted if the committee cannot come to an agreement about the debt will not come into effect until January 1st 2013. Coincidentally, the Bush tax cuts are also supposed to expire on the same day.

I am very concerned that the Super-Committee now will become embroiled in partisan gridlock and will allow the sequestration cuts to proceed until after the presidential election. It could be politically beneficial for one of the parties to allow the super-committee to fail thus portraying the White House in a negative light and making Obama look even more ineffectual at successfully governing. While this would be a very risky political maneuver, it is possible that the sequestration cuts would be dealt with by a lame-duck Congress after the election and the political damage has been done. A deal might be made to address both the enormous budget cuts and de facto tax hike from the Bush tax cuts expiring. Unlikely, yes, but totally improbable? I don't think so. I sincerely hope the super-committee can come up with a bi-partisan solution to our deficit problem. But I am not concerned that this might be an idealistic dream in our hyper-partisan age.

Taste of Georgetown

This weekend was the 18th annual Taste of Georgetown, benefiting Georgetown Ministry Center's services supporting the homeless. Over 25 local Georgetown restaurants participated, offering selections ranging from Nutella crepes to paella. Chefs competed in the 1st annual "Pumpkin Food Fight", creating dishes such as turkey pumpkin chili & pumpkin peach crisps served in mini pumpkins. A good time was had by all.

Since the weather was dandy, we walked from Georgetown to Woodley and stopped for a photo op outside the World Wildlife Fund offices.
