More budget cuts...

I know budget cuts have to be made, but it breaks my heart to see them affecting libraries and the education process in general. On a personal level, I hate it because I'm a bookworm and I spent most of my childhood in the library or walking around the house with my nose in a book. Even on a practical level, it just doesn't make sense to me. Libraries are invaluable community resources - they're more than just a quiet place to do homework, they foster a love of reading and learning in kids.

Clearly, we're in an economic mess right now (understatement of the year), but cutting from education, including libraries, can only make things worse. We dig ourselves into these deep holes and leave it for the next generation to fix, but if we keep slashing educational opportunities for kids, we limit our possibilities even further.
