Court Orders California to Cut Prison Population
With our recent debate on closing Guantanamo Bay, this article highlights the current overpopulation of American jails. California must cut 55,000 inamtes from its prison system due to overcrowding. Stories like this are found in states across the country. While there are only 240 detainees in Guantanamo, any who are transfered to U.S. prisons will need to be kept in confinement for their safety. With the finite amount of space available in our jails, housing these detainees will be dificult.
