Who said this wasn't politically motivated?

The article says that Republican opposition to the stimulus package in the House (& possibly in the Senate in the near future) is risky and that, "Republicans could face elections for Congress in 2010saddled with the burden of having opposed crucial legislation."
So, is it really political? If it truly were, Republicans would have voted along with the Democrats, especially considering the Democratic President's approval rating these days.
As people in public office representing their consitutients, Republicans in Congress are allowed to disagree with the majority, and not have it be some ploy to earn relevance. It is clear that their qualms lie not with the new President, but rather with the substance of the bill itself: "Republicans want to show they are the party of low taxes and small government..." There is a reason the Democrats and the Republicans are two distinct political parties, and that is that they represent different ideas, ideals and people.
