In a bizarre twist, as the United States car market sharply declines and SUV sales have come to a halt the opposite is starting to occur in Iraq. As the country sits on one of the largest oil reserves in the world, there is little fluctuation in its relatively low price of $1.65. One Iraqi businessman in the NY Time's article noted, "regular drives from Baghdad to the southern city of Basra now look like caravans of American SUV's."
