I attached an interesting (though somewhat outdated) article that covers a lot of what we talked about today in class. Although Smith wrote his book in a time when moderate politicians still existed, today most politicians are moving to the far left or far right. Are Americans really being represented by this fierce partisanship?
If anyone is interested, Morris P. Fiorina's book "Culture War? The Myth of a Polarized America” further emphasizes the growing polarization of our elected officials despite the fact that most Americans fall somewhere in the middle. It is a short read and may shed some light on Megan's important question: "Are Americans really being represented by this fierce partisanship?".
