Senate unlikely to kill Cuba measures

I guess that President Obama really is interested in open up relations again with Cuba. For the Senate to be considering a bill that includes provisions that would allow for people to travel to Cuba and not have to pay in advance agricultural sales, it appears we are making our way towards developing a working relationship with Cuba. Obviously these two provisions do not do much in terms of lifting the trade embargo, but I really see this as an initial step that shows we want some sort of peace in the future. Given Castro is fading away with his health and age, if Cuba ends up with a new leader we have a great opportunity to finally work out some agreement.

  1. Raul also just completely shook up his ministry posts, replacing many of his brother's old hands. There are signs of thawing relations, but it will take time and lots of small shows of faith from both sides to create the big breakthroughs people are looking for.
