Potomac Fever is the blog of the Hamilton College Semester in Washington Program.
I meant to post this article, just so I could quote the correction at the bottom:"Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported the amounts Nancy Pelosi’s office spent on flowers and James Clyburn’s office spent on donuts."This article's lede is about the two things that Politico admits it got wrong.Politico-style journalism!
And Pelosi-style politics. Gotta love it.
Pelosi-style politics is...spending $3,000 on flowers for guest functions?I guess we're doomed.
Yes, doomed to have a speaker who will spend thousands of our dollars on flowers. Personally, I would like the head of the federal body charged with spending taxpayer money to be a bit more discriminatory when doling out my paycheck.
The Speaker of the House is pretty important. I don't particularly see a problem with the Speaker having to spend money to entertain guests and dignitaries. If a rank and file member was on track to spend $12k a year doing that, I'd be much more concerned, but I just don't see the big deal here. She has responsibilities based on her office.
If the Dali Lama wants flowers, the Dali Lama gets flowers...
